The project provided for the renovation of the Navy Entomology Center of Excellence at NAS Jacksonville, FL. The general concept of the renovated floor plan is to improve the departmental adjacencies by creating functional zones and to improve HVAC system performance while correcting building deficiencies. Building 937 has five primary spaces; Administration, Testing and Evaluation, Insect Rearing, Education & Training, and Common Areas. These spaces are currently mixed throughout the building and this renovation will consolidate functional zones. The renovation will move the Testing & Evaluation and Insect Rearing adjacent to each other to allow for a consolidated testing space and to better manage the building systems required to support these spaces from a temperature, humidity, and exhaust perspective. In addition, the Education & Training spaces will be located near the consolidated testing space to provide continuity of
functions during annual symposiums and other training sessions. Concurrently, the existing HVAC system is not adequate to support the temperature and humidity control requirements of the laboratory portions of NECE in acksonville, Florida, which has a high temperature and high humidity climate. The renovation will utilize the existing HVAC equipment to serve the administrative portions of the building and will install a new HVAC system to provide the necessary temperature and humidity control required by the laboratory portions of the building. The renovation will also address building deficiencies for accessibility of handicapped persons. “
