Apra Medical / Dental Clinic

The new clinic will replace the existing Branch Health Clinic and Branch Dental Clinic. The new clinic PFD requirement of 4,838.21 gross square meters (52,078 gross square feet) includes Primary Care/Family Practice Medical Home, including Immunizations, Medical Lab and Radiology, Physical Exam including Audiology, Optometry Clinic, Physical Therapy, Industrial Hygiene/Preventative Medicine, Dental Clinic, and Logistics. A large central waiting area is designed as a key architectural element of the facility, both in terms of function and aesthetics. Functionally, the central waiting area places all major destinations and all reception areas along a single, linear circulation path accessible from all main entrance points. Aesthetically, the high, sloped ceiling and clerestory windows provide natural light and an open feel to increase the comfort and quality of the waiting environment. The new Clinic is designed to be compatible with the existing base architecture while also providing a distinctive appearance in response to the specialized functions housed within. The project incorporated sustainable principles and concepts for energy-efficient environmentally conscious design. The facility is designed to withstand the substantial typhoon and seismic forces as well as the corrosive atmosphere of the remote island of Guam. The project achieved a Gold Rating through the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED® Building Rating System.
