7th Special Forces Group Troop Medical Clinic

SS&A was the Designer of Record in the design-build project delivery team for the Troop Medical Clinic for the 7th Special Forces Group located at Eglin Air Force Base, FL. The Troop Medical Clinic is a new medical & dental clinic exclusively serving the 7th Special Forces Group. It provides primary care services, physical therapy, dental services, and ancillary services including laboratory, x-ray, audio screening, vision screening, and pharmacy for the soldiers of the 7th Special Forces. The Troop Medical Clinic is designed to make the patient experience as easy as possible while providing an efficient and pleasing work environment for the staff. It is organized with “on stage” patient encounter spaces located close to the main patient entry and a consolidated waiting area with “off stage” staff support spaces located away from the patient encounter areas. The exterior of the Troop Medical Clinic is designed to complement the existing facilities in order to reinforce the unified architectural character of the campus. The symmetry and order of the building’s composition create a facility that is easily understood by patients, staff, and visitors.

The clinic incorporates sustainable design strategies and maximizes energy efficiency in its architectural, mechanical, and electrical design. Architecturally, the building enclosure is well insulated and appropriately sealed to prevent air infiltration. Natural lighting is used to the extent practicable, but windows are provided with Low-E glazing and shading devices to reduce solar heat gain. Mechanical systems were chosen for maximum efficiency and are designed to meet the requirements of the Energy Policy Act of 2005. The electrical system design includes LED lighting and a daylight harvesting system. The attention to energy-efficient design resulted in an overall energy cost savings of 30%. The project achieved a Silver Rating through the U. S. Green Building Council’s LEED® Building Rating System.
