Shavon Charlot presents at national SAME Joint Engineer Training Conference (JETC)

(May 6, 2025) – SS&A Design Collective (SS&A) is pleased to announce Shavon Charlot, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, NCARB, president of SS&A, will be presenting at the national 2025 SAME Joint Engineer Training Conference (JETC) being held in Louisville, Ky., from May 13-15, 2025.

The session, “Building Resilience: Innovative Design Solutions for Coastal Hazards,” explores strategies for designing resilient, sustainable buildings in coastal regions facing hurricanes, flooding, and saltwater corrosion among other hazards. Actionable insights into hazard mitigation, advanced materials, and best practices explored through real-world case studies will equip architects, engineers, planners, owners, and others to create structures that thrive in extreme coastal environments.

“Designing structures for coastal climates and hazards is not just a specialty I’ve honed for nearly 20 years – it’s a passion to create buildings that can sustain some of the harshest weather elements across the globe to keep their occupants as safe from harm as possible,” stated Shavon. “As architects, engineers, and designers, it’s our industry’s duty to anticipate likely impacts and create innovative solutions for the built environment to defend against Mother Nature’s greatest challenges, while aligning with Federal, state, and local building codes and guidelines. With the rate of occurrence and intensity of storms increasing year over year in many climates, this work is some of the industry’s most important work – and the most challenging.”

An award-winning architect and Building Design + Construction 40 under 40 recipient, Shavon has 20 years of experience managing and designing facilities for harsh weather climates across all coasts of the United States, the Pacific, and Asia. She has delivered over 100 projects totaling more than 5M square feet for clients including Department of Veteran Affairs, Department of Defense, and dozens more. Select projects include: the Naval Hospital Guam Apra Medical/Dental Clinic, Fort Eisenhower Veterinary Treatment Facility (VTF) Building 500 Addition/Alteration, and the Fort Eisenhower Fisher Army Dental Laboratory Renovation. Shavon holds a Master of Architecture degree from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Other sessions featured during the 2025 JETC program cover such topics as AI, energy security, project delivery, and the Indo-Pacific. Shavon will be presenting among a lineup of esteemed experts in their field, including Chef Robert Irvine and Jo Bass, former Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force. The conference welcomes an estimated 2,500 owners/owner reps, engineers, designers, contractors, consultants, and other providers who influence the Federal built environment. In addition to the value-rich learning content, the event showcases 200+ leading A/E/C technology and service providers in the Expo where SS&A Design Collective is a featured exhibitor.
