SS&A’s Simon Hurst Honored with AIA Alabama Accolade Award
Montgomery, AL – [October 22, 2025] – SS&A Design Collective is proud to announce that Simon Hurst, AIA, LEED® AP, Associate, Project Manager, and Architect, has been named the recipient of the 2025 AIA Alabama Accolade Award. This mid-career recognition is presented annually to architects who have demonstrated outstanding service to the profession and community.
Throughout his career at SS&A, Simon has managed a wide range of projects, including military and medical facilities as well as international work that has broadened the reach of Alabama architects around the globe. Known not only for the quality of his design solutions but also for his ability to bring people together, Simon consistently fosters collaboration among clients, consultants, and team members to deliver lasting, impactful outcomes.
In addition to his professional achievements, Simon has been deeply engaged in advancing the architectural community through leadership and service. Within the AIA Montgomery Chapter, he served as 2017 Chapter President, where he helped reinvigorate member engagement and built stronger connections with emerging professionals. He continued this commitment as Associate Director, organizing study sessions, mentorship programs, and outreach events to support future architects. Today, Simon continues to give back to the profession at the state level as an officer of AIA Alabama.
Simon’s dedication to design excellence also extends beyond AIA. He has served on the Board of Directors for Design Alabama, advancing initiatives that connect good design with civic life. He regularly supports the academic community as a guest lecturer and reviewer at Tuskegee University and Auburn University, helping shape the next generation of architects.
The Accolade Award, established by AIA Alabama, recognizes mid-career architects for exceptional service and contributions to the profession. Simon was nominated by AIA Montgomery in recognition of his professional achievements, leadership, and ongoing commitment to both colleagues and community.
