University of Alabama School of Medicine Russell Student Health Clinic

The University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa selected SS&A to design a new student health center adjacent to the School of Medicine Building, which housed their teaching clinics in order to realize efficiencies of sharing the ancillary services of lab, imaging, supply, records, and administration. The new facility contains clinic space for eight providers, an outpatient pharmacy, health education and administrative spaces. Highlights include a building designed in a traditional style utilizing brick, architectural precast concrete and standing seam metal roofing in the campus vernacular and blending with the adjacent School of Medicine building, clerestory windows providing abundant natural light to the “mall” from which clinics, pharmacy and patient education areas are accessed, and an inviting central “mall” that is a pleasant, student oriented space with comfortable seating, a coffee/snack bar, patient information library and wireless internet access. From this space, the window opposite the entrance door overlooks the center of the campus from the building’s high vantage point.
