University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing Renovation
SS&A provided architectural and engineering services for the multi-phase renovation of the UAB School of Nursing. The project focused on modernizing laboratory, educational, and administrative environments while maintaining full functionality of the school’s operations throughout construction. Careful phasing ensured classrooms and administrative areas remained in use as major portions of the building were renovated.
Phase One established a foundation for enhanced research and academic support, introducing a Grant Preparation Library, two Tissue Laboratories, a Research Meeting Center, a Doctorate Student Lounge, Endowed Chair Administration and Laboratories, and additional storage facilities.
Phase Two prioritized administrative efficiency and collaboration by creating a suite of 13 offices, an Administration Lounge, new conference facilities, and necessary support spaces.
Phase Three advanced the school’s instructional capabilities by enlarging four classrooms to seat approximately 70 students each and upgrading the audio-visual systems to support modern teaching methods.
Through these renovations, the School of Nursing gained a more flexible, functional, and technology-enabled environment to support its growing academic and research mission.
