Navy Drug Screening Laboratory
The Navy Drug Screening Laboratory – Great Lakes (NDSL-GL) is a new two-story modern drug testing laboratory located on Naval Station Great Lakes, IL. The NDSL-GL mission is to deter illicit drug use in armed forces by providing scientifically valid and legally defensible test results for selected drugs of abuse in urine specimens. The new facility will reinforce the NDSL-GL’s singular production process while providing a pleasant work environment for staff. The drug testing functions are located on the first deck including the accessioning laboratory, automated immunoassay screening laboratory, quality control laboratory, confirmation laboratory, and all drug testing documentation support spaces. Administrative functions are located on the second deck. The new facility’s unique shape and extensive glazing maximizes the amount of interior space that is visually connected to an adjacent, never to be developed wooded area near the project site, which provides views and natural day lighting for staff. The project is USGBC registered and is being developed to achieve LEED® silver certification.
