Dental Clinic Replacement
SS&A designed the replacement Dental Clinic at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) Parris Island in South Carolina, delivering a modern, high-capacity facility that supports the oral health and medical readiness of Marine Corps recruits and active-duty personnel. The new clinic replaces an outdated facility and is tailored to meet the demanding operational needs of one of the Marine Corps’ busiest training installations.
Designed to accommodate the large volume of recruits processed annually, the clinic supports a full range of dental services, including general and specialty dentistry, radiography, dental laboratories, prosthodontics, and oral surgery with dedicated recovery spaces. The facility also includes education and training areas, administrative offices, and centralized support spaces. An efficient layout places dental treatment rooms along double-loaded corridors with adjacent sterilization and supply areas, while logistics and service functions are consolidated within a dedicated wing for streamlined operations.
Resilience, accessibility, and patient experience were key design drivers. The building is elevated to reduce flood risk and incorporates modern force protection strategies. Separate entries and circulation paths for recruits and active-duty personnel improve security and flow, while open waiting areas filled with natural light create a welcoming and functional environment. Radiology services are integrated directly into the recruit processing sequence, improving efficiency and ease of access.
The result is a durable, flexible, and mission-ready dental facility that enhances care delivery while supporting the long-term operational needs of MCRD Parris Island.
