SOF Special Tactics Operations Facility (23 STS)

SS&A, as part of a Joint Venture, was the Designer of Record for the Special Tactics Operations Facility (STOF) for the 23rd Special Tactics Squadron (23 STS) located at Hurlburt Field, Florida. The STOF is a new 103,000 GSF operations facility exclusively serving the 23rd STS. The project included surveying, utility infrastructure, architectural, civil, landscape architecture, structural, equipment planning, comprehensive interior design, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, telecommunications, life safety, fire protection design and hazardous material (HAZMAT) abatement on the existing buildings and utility infrastructure to be demolished.

The project was administered by the USACE for the USAF. As such, the design had to comply with both USACE and USAF specific criteria. The project was designed to the latest DoD criteria including AFSOC Facility Excellence Guide and all applicable UFCs including 1-200-01 DoD Building Code and 4-010-01 DoD Minimum Antiterrorism Standards for Buildings, among others. Project complexity was high due to the specialized building functions including Current Operations Suite, Armory, Supply, Dive Shop, Aircrew Fight Equipment, Vehicle Maintenance Bays, Team Rooms, Cage Area, Bulk Equipment Storage, War Readiness, SAR Barn, Command Suite, WEPTAC, Simulations Suite, Intel Suite including SCIF, Medical Suite, Radio / Computer Suite and Training Areas. The project is pursuing Guiding Principles Compliance Third Party Certification (TPC) through the Green Building Initiative (GBI) and has received a Compliant rating during the design review.
