Sherlock, Smith & Adams was selected to provide complete architectural and engineering design services for a new worship space building connected to the existing facility at the existing narthex. The new building includes a new narthex and sacristy, and a sanctuary seating 225, including choir.
The exterior of the building is brick with arches along an ambulatory with a courtyard on one side and a cupola over the altar area. Architectural concrete arches hold windows on two sides and define an interior ambulatory space on a third side of the worship space. The interior features wood trim on gypsum board surfaces with stained concrete floors as well as the architectural concrete arches and overhead cupola that floods light into the space. The challenge here was to design a worshipful, transcendent environment, with quality finishes, within a restricted budget.
