General Description

Sherlock, Smith & Adams was asked to develop a solution that would maintain the quality and unity of the existing space in the sanctuary, but double the available seating to 240 seats and gathering areas. The resulting design transformed the space from a simple rectangular nave to a cruciform space. A new confessional space was added and the choir space was enlarged. To replace the small gathering area at the main entry of the sanctuary the roof was extended, providing a much more spacious vestibule. The enlarged vestibule doubles as a cry-room during masses.

The attractive wood scissor-trusses that characterized the former design were left intact. The interior materials were selected with the goal of maintaining a similar worship atmosphere to what the parishioners had been used to while brightening the feel of the larger space. This project was achieved on a very tight budget and was managed carefully so services and other church functions were not disrupted.
