7th special forces group troop medical clinic

Eglin Air Force Base, Shalimar, Florida

The Troop Medical Clinic incorporates sustainable design strategies and maximizes energy efficiency in its architectural, mechanical and electrical design.  Architecturally, the building enclosure is well insulated and appropriately sealed to prevent air infiltration.  Natural lighting is used to the extent practicable, but windows are provided with low-e glazing and shading devices to reduce solar heat gain.  Mechanical systems were chosen for maximum efficiency and are designed to meet the requirements of the Energy Policy Act of 2005.  The electrical system design includes LED lighting and a daylight harvesting system.  The attention to energy efficient design resulted in an overall energy cost savings of 30%.  The project was recently awarded Silver Certification through the U. S. Green Building Council’s LEED® Building Rating System.
