BRIGADE / BATTALION HEADQUARTERS ANNEX

Ft. Knox, Kentucky

Project Size and Construction Cost
New: 50,000 GSF; Renovation: 77,000 GSF; and $11 million

Sherlock, Smith & Adams designed the Battalion Headquarters Annex to supplement and extend the capability of the existing brigade headquarters building located on the same site. The annex is a three-story building which provides administrative offices for one medium battalion and two large battalions. It provides space for six large classrooms that are configured in a manner that allows significant flexibility through the use of acoustically rated partitions. The design makes use of non-trendy, durable finishes with special attention to sustainable materials. The familiar profile of a colored gabled roof helps to integrate the building into the campus. The building consists of two major components: a single-story portion that houses the educational/training program elements, and a three-story component that houses the medium brigade offices on the first floor and a large brigade headquarters on each of the second and third floors. The facility is designed to achieve a LEED Silver rating.
