Designing research environments demands temperature and humidity control, minimal exposure to vibrations, and shielding from interferences to provide a functional laboratory. As designers, we strive to provide a spacial environment of form, color, and natural and created light for researchers to excel in the scientific process of discovery to cure.
Our team of architects and engineers are proficient in designing state-of-the art laboratories. We have designed laboratories for basic, translational, and clinical research. Examples of our work include laboratories for: The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing, Birmingham, Alabama; U.S. Naval Medical Research Unit 3, Cairo, Egypt; U.S. Medical Research Center Detachment in Lima and Iquitos, Peru and Ft. Gillem, Georgia; and Environmental and Preventive Medicine Unit, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Sherlock, Smith & Adams architects and engineers have in-house capability in laboratory design and longstanding business relationships with “lab planners.”
