UNION STATION RESTORATION

Montgomery, Alabama

Construction Cost
$327,000

General Description
Sherlock, Smith & Adams was selected to provide architectural and engineering design services for the City of Montgomery’s historical Union Station and Train Shed renovations/restorations project.

The Union Station project included the restoration of the existing windows and doors, the evaluation of existing materials, and decisions on what to repair and how and what items would have to be replaced. Because of its historic nature, much of the restoration included repair versus replacement.

The Train Shed, which is a national historic site, was suffering from years of neglect. Sherlock, Smith & Adams was selected to provide both a full analysis of the facility and provide preservation documents for its restoration. The project analysis resulted in the establishment of a program which replaced the existing roof diaphragm and roof shingles, along with restoring the exterior facade, including the stained glass.
