Sherlock, Smith & Adams is currently overseeing construction of the nine-block
renovation of historic downtown Thomasville.
SS&A was hired in 1997 to create a “vision” for the renovation of downtown. Following
public meetings and coordination with City officials, the Master Plan was developed
and adopted by the City.
Land adjacent to the railroad was purchased to allow for a new parking lot to
service the downtown merchants and create “spill out” space for downtown festivals.
SS&A was responsible for construction documents that included renovation of historic
elevated walks, new concrete walks with decorative paving, new landscaping and
street furnishings and new lighting. Knowing that the downtown was going to go
through a significant construction project, the City decided to upgrade its utilities
prior to and in conjunction with the renovation. SS&A has been responsible for
coordinating this streetscape project with other utility/ infrastructure projects
already under construction.
