Troy State University at Montgomery (TSUM) selected Sherlock, Smith & Adams to provide complete architectural, engineering and planning services for the Rosa L. Parks Library and Museum.

The building stands at the very location where, on December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat aboard a city bus, and the majority of the building's main floor is a museum celebrating the woman and her role in ending institutionalized segregation. Also part of the building's scope is a campus library, an auditorium, four high-tech distance learning classrooms, and other educational and administrative spaces.

The facility has approximately 55,000 square feet on three levels, and is a principal structure for the revitalized downtown campus. A conservative exterior that is sensitive to the aesthetic character of surrounding buildings is complimented by a modern two-story entry lobby with balcony seating areas overlooking the new Curry Commons Clock Tower and Plaza.

The landscape and streetscape are designed to produce a seamless connection with the Plaza and define the extent of the TSUM campus.

By carefully programming and planning the type and location of adjacent spaces, the design team was able to solve a complicated spatial program with a simple, well organized plan on a restrictive urban site.
