Sherlock, Smith & Adams was commissioned to design this four-million-dollar complex for Lee Scott Academy, a private school in Auburn, Alabama, serving some 700 students from preschool to twelfth grade.

Located on a rolling and heavily wooded site, the school’s four separate buildings—a lower school, an upper school, an administrative and media center building and a gymnasium—are all connected by covered exterior walkways.

Included in the facility is a 17,220-square-foot elementary building housing 21 classrooms, computer labs, workrooms and toilet areas. The secondary education facility includes 18,550 square feet of space providing for education in three English classrooms, three math classrooms, three social studies classrooms, two foreign language classrooms, three laboratories, an art classroom, a band area, a computer lab and workrooms.

Also included at Lee Scott Academy is a 3,760 square foot media center with computer access to on-line resource material as well as a 400-square-foot “Little Library” for younger students. The cafetorium includes a 6,400 square foot multipurpose facility. The communications facility includes 1,000 square feet with computers networked throughout the entire campus including media center, science labs, and administration. Designs for the band included 2,380 square feet for the band room, storage, office and practice area. Language labs include 1,800 square feet to feature work stations for student/instructor or individual learning, making possible “progress at your own pace.”

A 2,400-square-foot area of administrative space is used by all faculty and includes a conference room, reception/waiting area, offices and storage areas. In addition, SS&A provided the design for an athletic complex consisting of a gymnasium with a seating capacity of approximately 2,600 people, a regulation size basketball court, locker rooms, a weight room, and a 2,000-square-foot exercise/gymnastics area. A football stadium and baseball/softball complex with a seating capacity of approximately 3,600 people round out the athletic complex.
